Kolkata: As the city readies itself for Maa Durga’s homecoming, Kolkata’s streets fill with dhaak, marigold and the anticipation of five days that belong entirely to Pujo. This Sharodiya, Virachi introduces The Durga Puja Edit, 2026, a collection of contemporary Indian occasion wear shaped around the rituals, reunions and quiet in-between hours that carry Durga Puja from Shashti to Dashami.

Shashti and Saptami open the festival at an unhurried pace, evenings spent moving from one pandal to the next, and The Durga Puja Edit answers with its Indo-western ensembles — fluid enough for hours on foot, festive enough to hold their own once the dhaak begins. Ashtami changes the register entirely: Anjali brings the year’s most-watched mornings, and it’s here that the edit’s sarees take over, draped in the kind of presence the ritual asks for. Navami loosens things again, given over to reunions and adda that stretch past midnight, and the edit’s lightweight lehengas move easily through both. By Dashami, as the city readies to see Maa Durga off, the edit turns to its suit sets — comfortable enough for the day’s long goodbyes, yet polished enough to carry into sindoor khela and the gatherings that follow.

This is, in essence, Virachi’s own reading of festive dressing: garments meant to be worn well past the five days they’re bought for, moving as easily into an ordinary week as they do into Pujo itself.

Each ensemble is built on the label’s signature handwork — French knot embroidery, zardozi and hand embellishments worked over premium fabrics by skilled local artisans, with every piece made to order and customisable across size, colour and design detail. This same care shapes Virachi’s approach to production — limited runs rather than mass manufacturing, and

packaging kept minimal, in keeping with the label’s ongoing commitment to responsible, made-to-order fashion.

Speaking about the collection, Co-founder Ms. Priyanka Singhania said, “Durga Puja is Kolkata at its most itself — five days where the city doesn’t just celebrate, it transforms. With The Durga Puja Edit, we wanted to dress that transformation: pieces a woman can wear from a Shashti evening out to an Ashtami morning at the pandal, without ever feeling like she’s changing costumes rather than herself.”

With The Durga Puja Edit, 2026, Virachi brings its philosophy of tradition made contemporary into the heart of Sharodiya, offering pieces designed to outlast the immersion and return, year after year, to the wardrobe they were chosen for.
