From Water Scarcity to Athlete Safety: Hyderabad Young Innovators Join Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Top 40

Hyderabad, INDIA – Aug. 25, 2026: From exploring how moisture in the air could be turned into a source of water to using sensors to understand movement patterns that could signal potential injury risks, three young innovators from Hyderabad are among the national Top 40 of the fifth edition of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow. Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is Samsung’s flagship CSR innovation programme for young people aged 14 to 22. Through design thinking, mentorship and hands-on learning, the programme enables young innovators from across India to identify real-world challenges and develop potential solutions, helping them take their ideas from the early stages towards prototypes.

Two Problems, Two Technology-Led Solutions Nineteen-year-olds Thuregal Mohammed Ezaz Ali and Dokku Rithwik, through their team Mistify, are developing Hydryft, a compact system designed to collect water from fog and purify it. The system uses mesh to capture moisture from the air and is being developed with fog-prone communities, trekking camps and eco-stays in mind.

The solution starts with a simple observation: if the air contains moisture, can that moisture be collected and turned into a usable source of water?

For 19-year-old Homanshika Reddy Pullagurla, the focus is on a different challenge. Her team Somatrace is developing a wearable system that uses sensors to track spinal movement in real time. Initially being explored for rifle shooters, the solution is designed to help athletes and coaches monitor movement patterns and assess potential injury risks during training.

The idea is built around a simple insight: when athletes train for precision, understanding how their bodies move can be important to both performance and safety.

Together, the two solutions reflect the range of challenges young innovators are choosing to explore — from finding alternative sources of water in difficult environments to understanding physical movement that could contribute to injury risks in sports.

Their selection is also part of a wider shift visible in the fifth edition of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, with more than half of the national Top 40 teams coming from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The participation highlights how young people across India are identifying challenges based on what they see and experience around them. The Top 40 teams will now participate in a 10-day Innovation Bootcamp, receiving intensive mentorship from startup founders and industry experts at FITT-IIT Delhi. As part of the Bootcamp, they will also get an opportunity to visit Samsung R&D Institute India – Delhi, Samsung R&D Institute India – Noida, Samsung R&D Institute India – Bengaluru, Samsung Design Delhi and Samsung’s Regional Headquarters in Gurugram.

The teams will then compete for a place in the Top 20, which will receive further support to strengthen and advance their solutions ahead of the Grand Finale.

At the culmination of the programme, four winning teams will collectively receive incubation grants worth INR 2 crore, along with incubation support from FITT-IIT Delhi, helping them take their solutions towards further development and market readiness.

For the three young innovators from Hyderabad, making the national Top 40 is an opportunity to take two simple observations — that the air around us can hold water, and that the way an athlete moves can provide clues about potential injury risks — and explore what technology can do with them.
