27th May 2026, Mumbai: When it comes to showing up for the planet and for causes that truly matter, the Bhamla Foundation has always led with action. Marking World Environment Day 2026, the foundation flagged off its Tree Plantation Drive under the global theme #NowForClimate, a call that moves beyond awareness to urgent, collective action. Supported by the United Nations Environment Programme, BMC, and Godrej Industries Group, the initiative saw actor and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty, Cabinet Minister for Environment and Climate Change Pankaja Munde, and Mayor of Mumbai Ritu Tawde come together for a shared purpose.
Set against the backdrop of DY Patil International School, Worli, the plantation drive reinforces a long-standing commitment to sustainability and community action. Led by Asif Bhamla and Saher Bhamla, the initiative builds on years of on-groundwork, from large-scale beach clean-ups to campaigns like #EkPedMaaKeNaam – driven by a belief that real impact comes from consistent, tangible efforts.
Saher Bhamla, highlighting the intent behind the initiative, said, “Climate action has to move from conversation to collective responsibility. Every tree we plant today is a step towards restoring balance, for our cities, our communities, and future generations.”
Joining the initiative, to support on-ground climate action and echoing the urgency of the moment, Sujit Patil, Chief Communications Officer, Godrej Industries Group, added, “Sustainability cannot remain an idea, it must translate into everyday action. Initiatives like these remind us that meaningful change begins locally, with communities coming together to take ownership of our environment.”
With Shilpa Shetty championing mindful living, alongside the policy leadership of Pankaja Munde and civic stewardship of Ritu Tawde, the initiative brings together influence, intent, and action, reinforcing a simple message: the time for climate action is not tomorrow, it is now.
